01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

The moment you open the door, instruments tuning up and a warm greeting from the owner quickly put first-time visitors at ease. Occupying the 2th floor in Asakusa's Hanakawado, Soul Trane is a dedicated jazz bar hosting sets by professional musicians alongside open jam sessions that draw skilled players from across the city. Through the window, train lights glide past in the dark, framing an intimate space where you can catch every note and breath from the bandstand.

With seating placed close to the stage, the evening unspools through jazz standards and spontaneous solos that belong purely to that performance. On jam session nights, seasoned regulars and visiting players trade choruses back and forth, and the owner occasionally steps behind the drum kit to keep the rhythm driving forward. Between sets, musicians often mingle and chat, fostering an unpretentious atmosphere where listeners connect effortlessly over shared tastes.

Behind the bar, drinks run from bourbon and soda or Jack Daniel's to cold bottled beer, classic cocktails, and wine. Non-drinkers can settle in with iced coffee, served directly at the table so you can listen comfortably at your own pace.

Listed hours run Tuesday through Sunday from 19:00 to 23:00, with Mondays closed. Diners note that live performances generally start around 19:00 and finish around 22:00. One visitor mentioned the interior was non-smoking during their visit. Payments can be settled with PayPay. It makes a fitting stop whether you want to end a day in Asakusa with live music or drop in on an impromptu session.
